Deck Inspection and Repair

How strong is your deck? Will it last one more season?

After using your deck all summer, it might be in bad shape. However, our deck repair services can help keep your deck in shape for many years. A well-designed and well installed deck can increase the size of your living and entertainment area and increase the value of your home.

The deck is always exposed to elements, and, on most days, it is always under heavy use. As such, the wooden surface needs constant maintenance. Decks require maintenance to maintain their look and keep them sturdy and safe. Our deck inspection and deck conversion services give your deck the original structural integrity and look.

Some of the issues we can help correct include:

Discoloration

Although you can still use your deck after it discolors, it will look unsightly. Call us, and we will stain the deck afresh. Staining involves removing the existing color off the boards, cleaning the board, and applying stain. The stain we choose for all our projects is UV safe, so you do not have to replace it after a few weeks. Staining is ideal when you need to give an old deck or a weather deck a new face.

Cracks

Cracking makes a deck unsightly and unsafe. This happens mostly to old decks. If cracks are small, less than six inches long, you do not need to replace the boards – we will fill them with wood filler and then seal them. For longer cracks, we can flip the beds so that the underside comes up. If the underside is also cracked, we will recommend that you replace the board.

We recommend that you fill cracks every fall. The wood expands and contracts all through the summer and winter.

Rotting

Rotting is a sign of water and insect damage. You have to take care of wood rot before it spreads and makes the deck unsafe. The project involves removing the rotten board and then screwing new boards. The new board must fit where the old board was and match the color of the older boards.

Wide Gaps

If the gaps between the boards on your deck are more than a quarter-inch, they can cause tripping dangers. During construction, the gaps between the boards are small – usually an eighth or a quarter of an inch. Over time, the wood shrinks and the gaps become wider. We can help you remedy the problem by readjusting the boards or replacing them with new ones.

The gaps help in drainage. When installing the boards, we consider their moisture content based on how they were treated, to decide the size of the gap to leave.

Broken Deck

If your deck boards break from a heavy impact, from overuse, aging, or rotting, you can replace the boards. The process involves removing the broken boards and installing new ones to ensure that deck is safe.
